Our Perspective

Education First

Our background is in education — over 25 years in classrooms and school operations before founding Liberty Test & Tag.

We know that every safety measure in a school — from working RCDs to a compliant powerboard — always protects more than equipment. It protects people, continuity of learning, and the reputation of your school community.

That's why our approach is different. We test thoroughly, report transparently, and partner with schools to plan realistic schedules that work within budget cycles and timetables.

The Challenge

A large independent school needed comprehensive electrical testing across classrooms, administration buildings, IT labs, and outdoor learning areas — all while maintaining normal operations and staying within budget constraints.

Our Solution

  • Staged testing plan across two term breaks
  • After-hours access for IT and admin areas
  • Real-time digital tracking and reporting
  • Full compliance documentation for insurance

"We inspected, tested and tagged every single item in the school as if our own children or family members were going to handle it. Providing a safe school environment is fundamental to learning cultures where students learn, thrive and grow."

Critical Information

The Insurance & Compliance Angle

Electrical compliance isn't just a legal duty — it's a condition of most school insurance policies.

Insurers increasingly require evidence that testing and tagging, RCD testing, and fire-safety inspections are current and carried out by certified technicians with real test data.

Our detailed reports provide the documentation your insurer expects — protecting your school against compliance-related claims or denied coverage.

What Insurers Look For

  • Current testing records for all portable electrical equipment
  • AS/NZS 3760 compliance with proper test data (not just visual tags)
  • RCD testing documentation (quarterly or 6-monthly)
  • Certified technician credentials and traceable audit trail
  • Secure digital records with unique asset IDs and report integrity for insurance or WHS audits

Insurance at Risk?

Coverage Denial

Claims may be rejected if testing is not current

Australian Standards & WHS Legislation

Electrical Safety Standards in Education

Electrical testing in schools isn't just best practice — it's a legal and insurance requirement.
At Liberty Test & Tag, our work aligns with the standards and legislation that govern the safe use of electrical equipment in educational environments across NSW and the ACT.

All testing and reporting follow the latest Australian Standards and NSW Work Health and Safety Regulation 2025, including:

AS/NZS 3760:2022 – In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment

The primary standard covering portable electrical appliances, classroom technology, powerboards, and extension leads.

AS/NZS 3012:2019 – Electrical installations – Construction and demolition sites

Applies when electrical tools or temporary supply leads are used for school maintenance or facility upgrades.

AS/NZS 3019:2022 – Electrical installations – Periodic verification

Ensures fixed electrical systems within buildings are routinely checked and compliant.

WHS Regulation 2025 (NSW), Part 4.7 – Section 150

Requires that all workplaces, including schools, inspect and test electrical equipment at intervals suitable to the environment and risk level.

These requirements also extend to portable petrol and electric generators, inverters, and mobile electrical plant used by maintenance teams or at outdoor school events. Each is tested for insulation resistance, earth continuity, polarity, and safe operation in accordance with the relevant standards.

We provide detailed compliance reports that satisfy both SafeWork NSW and school insurance audit requirements, ensuring your school's equipment meets all obligations for safety, documentation, and duty of care.
