From 1 July 2026, section 26A of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) requires PCBUs to comply with applicable approved Codes of Practice, or manage the relevant hazard or risk using another method that provides an equivalent or higher standard of health and safety.
For schools, this means WHS controls should not simply exist on paper. Relevant hazards need to be identified, appropriate controls implemented, and clear records maintained showing what has been done.
